The fact that they live 6 hours away means I don't get to see them as often as I'd like. But for my birthday I got my wish of a sister weekend snowboarding in Tahoe!! It was FABULOUS. Okay fine maybe it's more like a dip. into a puddle. But it has satisfied my need for something to mother for now while Matt works on his doctorate. She is absolutely adorable and keeps us laughing and on our toes. She weighs in at exactly 3 lbs, the perfect size for our little condo. The best part? She's an excellent snuggler - her and I have fallen asleep many a night on the couch while Matt works tirelessly in the office on his homework.

Holly on her first day home :)

Knee Update

For all of you who are curious as to what has happened with problems with my knee in the past months...

The injections that started with the appearance on The Doctors lasted for 6 weeks but were, in the end, unsuccessful. After more physical therapy and no improvement my doctor wanted to go in and take a look. June 30th I had arthroscopic surgery that discovered all the problems! I had a 20% tear in my ACL that had resulted in a blood clot lodging in the area, damaged cartilage behind my knee cap, and an inflamed gland (the ones that produce joint fluid - I forget the name). My doctor was able to remove the blood clot, shave off the crummy cartilage and remove the problematic gland. My ACL is still stable, slightly less so that my right, but nothing that should be a big problem.

Now, after 4 more months of physical therapy - I'm FREE!!!!! I have been discharged and am seeing a huge difference as I am able to get back to my normal routine and the things I enjoy. Matt and I went hiking last weekend, which was somewhat short lived as I still have to build up the knee muscles - but it was so nice to even be out there!

Thank you all for all your prayers and support. It's good to be back to the active world :)

The Great Outdoors

We had a wonderful time this summer going camping with our best friends Daniel and Kristin and their daughter Kaylee. I haven't been too good at keeping you all in the loop huh? Well I'll try and catch you up on as much as I can and now that my schedule has slowed down a bit at work after the crazy "end of semester" rush, I hope to be more faithful at blogging over the holidays.

I have to start with our trip to NC/TN back in June. We had an amazing time!! Tennessee became one of my favorite states after this trip. The people are so warm and friendly. Life is laid back and you aren't in the "big city rush" that I sometimes feel we get caught up in here in LA. The rush that just ends up in you being behind on everything and feeling like you're constantly playing catch up. After 3 days in TN we drove out to Matt's grandparents place in Murphy, NC, just over the TN/NC boarder. We spent the rest of the week there spending time with family (Matt's parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and kids). Most of these people I had never met before because they were unable to make the trip out for our wedding, so it was a wonderful time of "getting to know you." Here are some pictures of our time.

This is the inside of one of the shopping centers in Franklin, TN...how cute!

We had to go to the Grand Ole Opry - and Montgomery Gentry was inducted! <3 country music

One of my favorites - I think we went 3 times while we were there - Cracker Barrel please come to California!!!

This was at a cider bar - yes that's right like apple cider. Matt here. Just wanted to let you all know that I passed my test and am now a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS)!! This is quite exciting, as I took the test in March, and waited until last week to find out the results. They actually came in while we were on vacation (figures) in NC/TN (another post). I'm excited because this is what I imagined doing since I was 16 and realized I wasn't going to be playing basketball in the NBA. ;) Anyway, to quote my wife, "I'm legit!"

Matthew Himsey, PT, SCS
Board Certified in Sports Physical Therapy

P.S. From my understanding, they believe that Jesus is an angel that God commissioned with the task of saving the world from their sin through His death. I have been taught from as far back as I can remember that Christ is God, though I had no convincing proof of this until I started searching for myself. Now, I can't help but notice proofs on almost every page of Scripture. Let's get started on the first one that jumped out at me. Keep in mind these are not the thoughts of a trained theologian, just a layman who is making some observations on the text.

Mark 1:2-3 - "As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "Behold, I send My messenger ahead of You; who will prepare Your way; The voice of one crying in the wilderness, "Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."'"

Here, Mark actually quotes 2 OT passages: only one being from Isaiah's book (Is. 40:3). The other is from Malachi 3:1. Apparently it was common custom when using several quotes to lump them together under the name of the more prominent prophet. In some translations, it is rendered "As it is written in the prophets," which is probably more literally correct. For further clarification, and proof of Christ's deity, let's view these 2 passages followed by my uneducated observations.

Malachi 3:1 - "'Behold, I am going to send My messenger and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,' says the LORD of hosts."

Observations
1. God is going to send a messenger. This messenger is sent out to prepare the way for the one who follows him. Each of the four Gospels clearly verifies this messenger to be John the Baptist (Matt 3:3, Mark 1:2, Luke 3:4-6, John 1:23).

2. This messenger is going to prepare the way for God. The end of verse 1 clearly identifies that Jehovah is the one speaking these words and He uses the personal pronoun, "Me" to describe the identity of the person who's way the messenger is preparing. There is an apparent disagreement with the interpretation of this passage that Mark gives us as he says, "who will prepare Your way." So we are left with 1 of 2 options: either Mark is wrong to interpret this passage to Christ and therefore the entire Bible is not trustworthy, or Jesus is God.

Isaiah 40:3 - "A voice calling, 'Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; make smooth in the dessert a highway for our God.'"

Observations
1. As previously stated, all four Gospels agree that John the Baptist is the prophesied messenger, the "voice calling." In John 1:23, John the Baptist identifies himself as the "voice" in this passage.

2. Who is it that the "voice" is preparing the way for? "Clear the way for the LORD (Jehovah/Yaweh)...for our God." Unless God came to the earth, there is no need to clear the way or make a path for Him. In other words, Jesus has to be God in order for this passage to be true.

Whenever we see LORD in capital letters, it is the Hebrew word YHWH, which in all honesty (from my research), we really have no idea how to accurately pronounce. YHWH also happens to be God's name. Some say it should be pronounced "Yah-way" and others "Jeh-hoe-vuh." For our conversation it doesn't really matter, other than we know that it refers to God by name.

It seems clear from these OT quotations that John the Baptist was sent to prepare the way for YHWH. But the NT clearly identifies that John the Baptist knew that his mission was to prepare the way for Christ. Contradiction in the Scriptures or verification of Christ's deity? I'm going with the choice that seems most likely - the choice that doesn't force me to throw away my Bible.

I'm Legit!!!!

Hey all!!!!!! Over the past several months, I have been having some interesting discussion with a patient of mine (thanks Azneef, if you're somehow reading this) who is a Jehovah's Witness. We've been going back and forth on a lot of things that are not critical, however, one conversation keeps coming up. That conversation is over the deity of Christ. Because of these conversations, I have read through some of the material provided to me by my patient, but mostly, I have just been reading the Bible and have found a series of Biblical passages that prove (to me) that Christ is indeed God. My goal is to type these out in hopes of sharing them with you. I'm planning to share them so that I can make sure I have a good grasp of the knowledge that I think I have, and hopefully you can help me out. I plan on calling this series "Convincing Proofs." My goal is to post the first one within a week. Keep me on task! Convincing Proof number 1 will come from Mark 1:2, so check it out, see what you think, and meet me back here in a week for some discussion.

Airdate

Hey all! "What's wrong??" Yeah that was my first thought too! Well apparently the answer is nothing. Nothing has changed in the plan to inject my knee with Supartz. The insurance company wouldn't approve Synvisc - but its basically "toe-mae-toe" "toe-mah-toe" as they say. Same thing - different name. But now they want to do it in a tv studio in Hollywood instead of in the Burbank doctors office. After I got over my stuttering "wha-wha-me-what?" I figured it might be fun... My doctor had gotten a call from the television show The Doctors requesting him to return to the show as a guest once again. He was also asked to bring a patient - that would be me! So this morning we had a camera crew in our little condo (man they brought a lot of equipment) to do an "in-home" interview clip type deal. I was soooo incredibly nervous but it went pretty well. I don't feel like I do well in front of any sort of audience and this includes camera-men and field producers. An hour later they decided they had enough footage for a less than 60 second clip! WOW.

Friday morning I report to the set at 6am. Yup. 6am. But I get to have my hair and makeup done! Woot! I'm just worried that I'll start crying on tv from the pain of a 4-inch long needle injecting some goopy stuff into my knee - lol. I'll let you know how it goes and when you can catch my one and only chance at stardom bahahahahaha.

Look for it: <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 94px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5baJj_8cj1Q/Scr93gjR4NI/AAAAAAAAAfg/cts2DtIQZdI/s320/Doctors+logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317341440136831186" />

He's back!!

My hubby that is... And I'm already looking forward to some improvement! Lord willing...haha. After an MRI and some more doctor visits they determined that there is some damage or a defect in the cartilage in my left knee. So some Synvisc shots will hopefully get some medication and nutrients in there to allow the cartilage to regenerate and heal itself. First shot of three is Wednesday. I'll just give you an update on what's been going on with my knee. I've been very frustrated lately with the pain that I've been having for the past year and a half. I've been going to physical therapy for almost a month now and the knee pain seems to only be getting worse. My therapist has limited my motion to hopefully decrease the pain, but this just leaves me helpless, slow, and more frustrated. It takes me twice the normal time to walk down stairs, I can't twist in any way, and bending my knee has to be done with care. It's a lot to think about all the time and forgetting leaves me in pain. Most nights when i get home it is just easiest to lie down and have Matt pile ice on my knee and leg. The inactivity is driving me bonkers! I can't workout, I can't walk down our front stairs, I can barely even shave in the shower without hurting myself. I just want it to end. I suppose the Lord is trying to teach me patience and dependance on Him. Its funny how we take such simple things for granted, and how much those things hurt when something goes wrong! I didn't know how good I had it :) I'm currently being treated with electro stimulation and iontophoresis (basically lots of wires and magnets driving in medication). There has been mention of cortisone shots, but that probably won't be for a while and only after some more doctor visits.

So anyway...if you would pray for my silly frustrations. That I would be able to be patient and do as the doctors think best. That I would trust that the Lord controls all things - even the ligaments and muscles in my knee - and trust in that.

dear friend

I have such wonderful friends. My birthday fell on a Monday this year. A Monday that also happened to be Martin Luther King's birthday... so I had the day off. While that was really neat, my hubby did not have the day off. I was honestly feeling down about spending the day alone before Cassia insisted on spending all her spare time between classes with me. She is so darling. Not only that - our doorbell rang at 7:45 and...lo and behold!... muffins and a chai latte on our doorstep as she tried to drive away before we saw her (not quick enough :) ) We had a great time exploring downtown Newhall and all the neat little shops that are tucked away on nearly every block! Who knew our little corner of Santa Clarita had so many cool places??? We ate at a little hole-in-the-wall cafe that was WONDERFUL! Family owned and everything made from scratch... it doesn't get better than that. Then found this amazing store... every time I drive by it now I'm tempted to stop. Luckily for my husband I've been able to resist.

Dearest Sia, thank you for spending the day with me. You are such a blessing to me and a wonderful, wonderful friend. LOVE YOU!

good oldies

In the past two months or so I've found a few really neat antique shops around Santa Clarita that I've been wanting to visit. Well Cassia and I went to one for my birthday (which my computer is not letting me upload the pictures from) and then just this last week my sister and I went to another one in which we found some of the neatest things! A few of which made their way home with us :) I forgot to take a picture of the awesome binoculars that she bought - next time. But here's what I came home with...

A Tour for Mom

My mom still hasn't seen our place since it was stacked with boxes the week before our wedding so there are for you Mom.... When she came to visit we went ice skating and had a GREAT time. I haven't been ice skating in at least two years and although we didn't last long and the line to get hot chocolate afterward was ridiculously LONG, it was the coldest I've ever been in LA. And that was cool! I miss cold rainy days for months on end. Days where you could curl up in front of the fireplace and read a good book all day long because going outside meant being drenched by the torrential downpour. While it was wet and cold, you couldn't help but love the sound that it made as it clattered against the windows and beat down on the roof. So comforting. You people who live in cities or states with seasons, be very very thankful. Trust me - constant sunshine and hot weather DO get old. I wish that cold spell that we had would have lasted longer, but it was great while it lasted. And now if anyone wants to come visit - we're in the 80's.

fit fit fit!

So I've always been one of those people who says they want to work out consistently, who every now and then will commit to a workout only to 3 weeks later be utterly bored. I and my knees can't stand running and so I've had to give up soccer until further notice. So while at work I googled a new fitness routine in hopes that maybe this time I would be able to keep it up, and I made a huge discovery!! There's an entire television channel, hosted by Discovery actually, that's devoted to workouts and good eating! So needless to say after work I ran home and frantically searched our cable guide. Lo and behold! Channel 171! Workouts of every different size, shape, length and intensity at my fingertips. 24/7! Plus regular healthy cooking programs which is a big bonus. I love cooking but it is a bit difficult to find things that are actually healthy that my "meat and potatoes" "salad-hating" husband will go for. I have yet to actually watch the cooking shows but for the past 5 days I've been working out - something different each day! I'm sore - but happy.

For any others who suffer from fitness routine boredom - give it a whirl! Fit TV

Happy sweating :)

cookies o' sugar

Just 3 things:
1. so fun...
2. the kids were adorable...
3. and the cookies were YUM!!

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287989780228149858" style="DISPLAY: block; Southern California is sun without rain, but why is it that we little humans think we deserve that? We think that everything should be flowers and rainbows. I forget so often that this world is not supposed to be anything like heaven. For believers this is as close as we will ever get to hell. That should comfort us and yet at the same time warn us that there will be a fair amount of suffering in this world. The words of our Lord through the Apostles are so encouraging:

"God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under His mighty hand by casting all your cares on Him because He cares for you. Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion, is on the prowl looking for someone to devour. Resist him, strong in your faith, because you know that your brothers and sisters throughout the world are enduring the same kinds of suffering. And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To him belongs the power forever. Amen."

Oh I have been so busy... I miss my bible. I miss my Friend, my Saviour, my Lord.

Break out those cowboy boots!

I would have broken mine out if I actually had some that fit. You know how you buy something in high school thinking it fits you when in fact its 3 sizes too big? Well so it was with my ten dollar cowboy boots. So when my sweet husband (who doesn't really care for country music) came home with two tickets to see Lonestar, I was thrilled! ...until I pulled on those boots and realized how ridiculous I looked. So we went sans cowboy boots, which was fine cuz we probably would have looked silly anyways in Los Angeles :) But we had a blast!!!!! And I think Matt's coming around to country ;) I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyways...

If you ever have a chance at tickets for the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills - do it! Don't turn it off because it makes you sick or sad.

Fire Update

Here is the current view from our front stairs. Right now the winds are blowing North-West and we're directly North so our hope is that it passes us right by but there are many people who have lost their homes, including probably a friend of ours (they are waiting to hear because 90% of their community was burned and they are not sure if their's was in that percentage). It's odd for us to think that this is just "normal" for Southern California and sort of expected. It seems like so many times within a year the same homes are threatened and the same areas are burned. Does it ever end? All freeways in Santa Clarita are closed. Matt was supposed to go to a professional development class in LA today but he never made it because there seriously is no way to get there, even surface streets are closed. Anyhoo we are fine and just "enjoying the show."

Quite creepy to see the freeway with no cars on it since it's been closed.

Pray that the winds die down!!! It's especially fun when the couple are dear friends and we've been waiting for this for a while! Anyways... we flew back to Rhode Island for Matt and Ashley (Tortora's!) wedding :) Since my Matt was in the wedding we went out early and took care of some logistical things in the days leading up to Saturday. The day was BEAUTIFUL! A perfect fall day in New England with colorful leaves and the temperature at about 65... perfect. They were sooo happy. It was so wonderful to hear them recite their vows to one another with such conviction. It brought tears because their vows were similar to ours and I remember crying through mine, as I did through theirs hehe. Congratulations you two! Hope Mexico was great ;)

The rest of our time back there we spent with friends and family. Jeff and Jen have beautiful twins that we had a blast with. So much so that my father-in-law felt the need to tell us not to get any ideas just yet :) But come on...don't they look like they are having fun with Everett?

On our last day we drove into Boston and walked the Freedom Trail with Matt's dad. It covers I think 11 historical sights around Boston, everything from Boston Commons that has been there from the very beginning to the grave of Paul Revere, Sam Adams and others. It's so much fun to be somewhere with so much history. California - we have been deprived.

This may sound odd coming from a girl who grew up in California, but I LOVE the East Coast. I love the seasons. I love the crisp fall weather where I can wear a sweater and not be sweating by noon. Oh and hello - scarves! Summer is pleasant and GREEN. Christmas = snow. Spring is the only season I've yet to experience back East but I hope to remedy that soon. Perhaps living there would end my love affair with the area but for now... we're in the honeymoon phase :)

Look at how pretty the colors are!!!!

The happy couple... so precious.

Yay for friends that haven't been seen in too long! Saturday I went to my very first womens event: Joni E. Tada! Now, I knew her story, read it as a kid, but had never met her or heard much more than how she became a quadrapalegic. I have to tell you -- she is amazing! She hasn't let anything slow her down. Married and running a wonderful organization that takes wheelchairs and the gospel to disabled individuals all over the world! But what really got me is her blazing passion for life and for the gospel.

She talked to us about how weak we think our souls are. We think we can't handle what we've been given. That God has given us enough and when one more thing happens it's just too much to handle. "Your soul is not as fragile as you think," she said. Such a good truth. On the one hand we are unable in our own right to accomplish anything, but we CAN, in His grace, handle everything that He so lovingly places upon us. Instead of sinking further under the covers thinking we can't handle the day that we know will be overwhelming, we should lift up our cares to our loving Savior and then take on with fire the day that He has given us and do our best for Him and His kingdom. It was so humbling listening to her say all of this. Here am I, young, relatively healthy, without any major catastrophic tragedies in my life, and yet so quick to complain about things, even if its just to myself. Most recently I was lamenting the stomache issues that have been painful and persistent, yet to be accurately diagnosed. I would have a pity party and complain to my poor husband who tried his hardest to serve me and get me to have a better attitude. Who am I? Gazing up at a woman who for most of her life has been confined to a wheelchair without even the ability to cough on her own, and yet you do not hear her complain. My only thought was - I'm so selfish. I have so much to be thankful for and yet I allow the smallest things to cause such an uproar in my life.

It was so challenging to hear her tell stories of how she has used her disability to her advantage, to the Lord's advantage. To have a smiling face in the midst of her pain and struggles, to sing Amazing Grace in elevators to start conversations with those around her (something I would never have the courage to do, I think people would look at me like I was nuts - go Joni!), to encourage others who are limited in this life by God's sovereign design to realize that they too are blessed greatly by our Lord and that we all deserve none of it. To hear her talk about heaven and all the glories that will be there is incredible. To hear her say that 90 seconds in heaven will be more than worth all of the pain and suffering in this life nearly brings you to tears. For she has been through far more pain and suffering than most of us will ever experience. Personally, I think heaven will be far more glorious to her than to some of us, simply because of the life she will compare it to.

It is often a thought in my head that I would not be able to handle being in a situation such as hers, but part of me thinks that God gives more grace where it is needed. And He has blessed her with patience, perserverence and a hope that I can only hope to have someday after I have weathered lifes storms. It is definitely a process. Thankfully God also gives grace for the process of sanctification.

Rock-tober

October = baseball. but this man has done nothing wrong.' And he was saying, 'Jesus, remember me when you come in Your kingdom!' And He said to Him, Truly I say to you, today you shall be with me in Paradise.'

Luke's is the the only gospel that describes the account of the thief's conversion, however, both Matthew and Mark reference the thieves and give us a bit more insight into his conversion:

"The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words." Matthew 27:44

"'Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!' Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him."

Mark 15:32

As we can see, at some point both thieves were joining with the rest of the crowd, including the chief priests, the elders, the scribes, the soldiers, and the rulers in mocking Christ. They wanted to see if His claims to being the Messiah were true. The only way they could envision that being true were if He could save Himself. After all, how can He save others if He cannot save Himself?

So if both robbers were at one point mocking Christ, why the sudden change in the one?! The answer can only be that God changed His heart. We have plenty of Biblical grounds for this claim, including Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus. And we will see why God's enlightenment is necessary as we go along.

The thief utters 3 sentences that demonstrate his true conversion, which was personally confirmed by Christ Himself. What is contained in those 3 short sentences reveals a whole world of information about which only God could have enlightened in his heart.

1. The thief came to an understanding of fearing God - "Do you not even fear God, since we are under the same sentence of condemnation?"

Why is the fear of God required for salvation? Well, the thief had an understanding of his temporal punishment for his sin - death, and wondered how an eternal God would punish him for the same action. Perhaps he was familiar with Jesus statement in Matthew 10:28: "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell." His thoughts may have been something along the lines of, "If we are suffering the same judgement as God here on Earth, how much more severe is our punishment going to be in eternity?!" So the thief came to an understanding of God's power and ability to take the ultimate action against humanity.

2. The thief came to an understanding of his sinfulness - "And we indeed are suffering justly for our deeds."

He understood that He had done wrong, that his actions were sinful. He realized that he was deserving of the punishment given to Him for breaking the law. Dr. MacArthur gave a nice little quote that helped drive this point home for me: "Sin is never clearer to the sinner than when he is in the presence of righteousness." What greater presence of righteousness than Christ Himself!! The thief was in the presence of the most righteous Person to ever walk on the planet! That leads to the next point...

3. The thief came to an understanding of the Glory of Christ - "but this Man has done nothing wrong."

When the thief compared himself to Christ, he realized that he was sinful and that Christ was innocent. The thief, who was sinful, told all in earshot that Christ was innocent, or sinless!! And there is only one way to reconcile the sinfulness of man vs. the sinfulness of Christ...

4. The thief came to an understanding of the hope of forgiveness offered through Christ - "Jesus, remember me when you come into Your kingdom!"

There is so much to talk about here. When the thief addresses Jesus, he calls Him Yeshua in the Greek, which means "God who saves." The thief realized that he needed to be saved from his sin by the sinless One, Christ. But it gets better. A few verses earlier, Jesus makes the following comment, "Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing." Jesus is speaking in reference both to being crucified and to being mocked. The thief realized that he might be able to be an answer to Jesus prayer. He realized that if God can forgive those that are killing Him, maybe he can be forgiven as well! And then he specifically addresses Jesus and asks for that forgiveness. We know this because of the "when you come into Your kingdom!" Old Testament eschatology (study of the end times) revealed that there would be a Messiah, that the Messiah would die, be resurrected, and bring His kingdom to reign. So when the thief asks if Christ will remember him when He comes into His kingdom, he is really saying something along the lines of, "Please don't destroy me when your kingdom comes."

Now we can see why a work of God was necessary in order for this thief to believe! On my own, I wouldn't be able to process all of that information to be able to draw those conclusions. And the thief did it within a matter of a few minutes, while being tortured in the most harmful way possible!

But Jesus response is priceless: "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise!" I want to break it down phrase by phrase, just like we did with the thief's comments.

"Truly I say to you" - Jesus had to say this because what would follow would be so unbelievable to those listening. It kind of like when we want to emphasize something particularly out of the ordinary and we precede or follow what we say with "seriously!"

"Today" - Not tomorrow, not next week or next year or next millenia; today. Just a couple little things to add to this one. The word "today" shines a rather bleak light on a couple of different theologies. The first is works righteousness theology, which claims that if we do enough good works the we can earn our way to Heaven. This man was on the cross, found on earth to be so bad that the authorities decided to remove him from the planet. There is no way that he had enough time while hanging on the cross to complete enough good works to outdo his bad works and allow him into Heaven. Most specifically, the Roman Catholic doctrine of purgatory takes a hit here. Jesus says, "Today," not, "after your sins have been purified by the money your loved ones give or the time you've spent working down your sin debt." The other thing, that I used to believe, was that Jesus paid for our sins in Hell for three days. Not so either, otherwise Jesus would have been calling Hell Paradise and would have confirmed to the thief a lie. Jesus did not go to Hell, otherwise He would not have been in Paradise with the thief.

"You will be" - A positive and affirmative statement made personally to the thief, not to everyone in earshot.

"with Me" - Isn't this the point of Heaven? So that we can be with the Creator, the Savior, the One who paid the debt for our sins on the cross? The penalty for our sins is eternity away from Christ. So the logical alternative is that the prize for having our sins paid for is to be with Christ.

"in Paradise" - The Greek word translated Paradise is the word for garden, however there are a couple of other places in the New testament where this same word is used to describe Heaven. In II Corinthians 12:2-4, Paul is describing being taken up into Heaven. One time he uses the word for Heaven, and the other time, the word for Paradise, but if you look carefully, you will see that he is referring to the same place because his thoughts are interrupted to describe another topic. The other reference is located in Revelation 2:7.

An understanding of the fear of God, a sense of our own sinfulness and the holiness of God, and an understanding of the hope of forgiveness found in Christ are the requirements for getting into Heaven. I am confident of these things because Christ confirmed that this thief who was hurling insults at Him a few minutes earlier would be spending eternity with Him in Paradise.

M

San Diego Highlights

Love love love San Diego. First of all the weather is PERFECT! Warm during the day but not too hot, and nice and cool at night. I even got to wear a sweater! How fall-ish ;) We wandered around the Gaslamp Quarter and enjoyed the old buildings and fun downtown atmosphere for most of Saturday. Ate at a great authentic mexican place, yummm. Gotta love mexican-the best ever. There was live music all day in the streets; someone on nearly every block. It was a marvelously relaxing day.

Sunday was even better. We enjoyed some morning hot chocolate and a little walk around downtown where we could hear shouts and outburts every few blocks from taverns that were already open for football games. So funny to walk by and see all the guys asking the hostess for apple juice while watching their morning football.... We took our hot chocolate to Balboa Park and wandered around the grounds looking at all the marvelous architecture - so much detail! There was a particular set of doors that I'd love for my house someday. There were quite a few museums that we would have loved to have gone through but we just didn't have time, and we couldn't decide which one we wanted to see most anyways. We had one more thing we wanted to do before leaving our peaceful vacation city: the BEACH! We drove up the 101 for a bit to La Jolla and ate at this great terrace restaurant called George's. The view was gorgeous. We could see snorkelers and kayakers from our table as well as a flock of birds that Matt thought were seals haha. Finally, it was time for the beach. Even though we live relatively close, it's not a location that we typically take the time to visit. Probably because we figure its always there and we can take the time to visit later. Whatever the reason, we haven't been in a while and it was fun to walk along Solona Beach and enjoy God's beautiful creation. And by the way - the little town Solana Beach is super cute and filled with unique little shops and one of a kind restaurants. All in all it was a wonderful weekend - take a peek! :) The very first thing we were able to do... find salt water taffy. We took last soccer season off as it started shortly before our wedding and ran until a few weeks after. We would have missed the majority of games. But we are back! Well Matt is, my knee is still recovering (hopefully) so I just take pictures and cheer from the sidelines.

Last week was their first game and I am proud to say they won! They all seemed to enjoy themselves and there were countless subs to relieve anyone who was even a bit winded. It is a very different team this year, new people have been brought in and they seem to have amped up the intensity quite a bit. I'm mildly glad I'm not playing - I do not do well in less than very supportive environments hehe. Some dear friends once said that if I were to be compared to a UPS package my label would read "fragile - handle with care." oh, how well they know me. Thankfully my hubby knows this as well so I am having a much better time cheering from the sidelines and taking pictures :)

Matty is number 18....antsy to get started and get in there.

Road trip

We are going to San Diego!!!!!

I have only been once and Matt has never set foot in the beautiful city so we are taking the weekend to get away from both of our full time work schedules to have some fun! Our bags are packed and we're putting in our last few hours at work before we can run off and hopefully hit the beach and do some fun shopping in downtown. Other than that we have no set plans so it will be a perfectly wonderful relaxing time. And the best part - IT'S FREE! After a stay at the Wyndham in Palm Springs for Resolved in June we were offered a free weekend on them if we attended a sales pitch for their time share. Well, seeing as we don't have any money to spare its not going to be tempting to purchase, but getting a whole weekend in return?! It feels a bit like cheating :-D

We will have lots of pictures upon our return so check back. I also have pictures from Matt's first soccer game of the season last weekend, but we've just been soo busy. Just more for you to look forward to :)

Delta and garage sales

Forgive me, it may take a little while for me to get used to doing this. So if I skip a week (or two or three) without any updates - just remind me :)

A couple weeks ago we were able to go to the Sacramento River Delta with the Amandus/Clarke family. We all "shacked up" in a beautiful ranch style house right on the Delta where we were able to dock the boat right outside the back door. We had an AMAZING time! Sooo worth the drive and the time off of work!

I learned to wakeboard, which made my hubby very proud. Quite an experience... I must say for someone with no arm strength. Let's just say I imagine it to be akin to your arms being pulled out of their sockets. Apparently someone needs to pull those dumbbells out of her closet and pick them up every now and then :) But it was definitely a good time, I'm just a weakling. Sorry I don't have any pictures of that but I do have some of Matty. It was great to see him have so much fun doing this.
This was the first day. By the end of the trip his jumps were twice as high as this and the guys were doing some pretty crazy stuff.

Then last weekend we did something I haven't done in years!! Garage sales!! We dragged ourselves out of bed on a Saturday morning - which tends to be the day when we take advantage of the lack of duties that we have and sleep later than we probably should. I was looking for an older coffee table to put in our living room. I knew I wanted to paint it white, but other than that I had just a vague idea of what I was looking for. At the end of the day we ended up with this:

And by the end of the next day it had turned into this:

New Musical Talent

For Matt's birthday, I told him I would get him a guitar since he has been wanting to learn.
